Article কাকে বলে, কত প্রকার, Best 10 Important Article Rules

Article মূলত এক ধরনের Adjective, যা Noun নির্দিষ্ট নাকি অনির্দিষ্ট, তা নির্দেশ করে। আবার সংক্ষেপে A, An, The-কেও Article বলে। Article কাকে বলে? ইংরেজি গ্রামারে Article একটি অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়। ইংরেজি গ্রামার ভালোভাবে জানা ও বোঝার জন্য Article-এর গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম। এছাড়াও SSC, HSC, Admission, BCS সহ যেকোনো প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় Article থেকে প্রশ্ন এসে থাকে। এই পোস্টে Article কাকে বলে, কত প্রকার, তা বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হলো।

Article কত প্রকার?

‎Article প্রধানত দুই প্রকার

1. Indefinite Article

যে Article দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনো সাধারণ ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে বোঝায়, তাকে Indefinite Article বলে। ‎A এবং An হলো Indefinite Article। সাধারণত Consonant (ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণ)-এর আগে ‘A’ বসে এবং Vowel (স্বরবর্ণ – a, e, i, o, u)-এর আগে ‘An’ বসে।

‎Example:

  • This is a book.
  • Sohag ate an apple.

‎2. Definite Article

‎যে Article দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে সুনির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝায়, তাকে Definite Article বলে। The হলো Definite Article। নির্দিষ্ট কোনো নদী, সাগর, পর্বত, ধর্মগ্রন্থ, পত্রিকা বা পৃথিবীতে একটিই আছে এমন কোনো কিছুর নামের আগে ‘The’ বসে।

‎Example:

  • The Padma is a famous river in Bangladesh.
  • ‎The Indian Ocean is the third-largest ocean in the world.
  • The Earth moves around the Sun.

Important Rules of ‎Articles

‎Rule 1

শব্দের শুরুতে consonant থাকলে তার পূর্বে a বসে এবং শব্দের শুরুতে vowel থাকলে তার পূর্বে an বসে। এটা তো আগেই বলেছি। এবং এটা সবাই জানে। কিন্তু শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর যদি h থাকে এবং তার উচ্চারণ যদি ‘অ/এ’ এর মতো হয় তাহলে তার পূর্বে an বসবে। আবার শব্দের শুরুতে “e/u” এর উচ্চারণ যদি “ইউ” এর মতো হয় তাহলে e/u vowel হওয়া সত্ত্বেও এর পূর্বে a বসবে।

‎Example:

  • I waited for an hour.
  • He is an MBA student.

‎Rule 2

শব্দের শুরুতে h থাকলে তার উচ্চারণ “হ” এর মতো হলে তার পূর্বে a বসবে।

‎Example:

  • He has a house near the river.
  • Sohag is a hardworking student.

‎

‎Rule 3

“O” যদি “ওয়া” এর মতো উচ্চারিত হয় তাহলে এর পূর্বে a বসবে।

‎Example:

  • This is a one-time offer.
  • ‎He is a one-eyed man.
  • That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

‎Rule 4

কোন ব্যক্তিকে নির্দিষ্ট অন্য কোন ব্যক্তির সাথে তুলনা করতে Proper noun এর পূর্বে a/an ব্যবহৃত হয়। এবং proper noun টি common noun হয়ে যায়।

‎Example:

  • He is a Nazrul of our school.
  • He is a Shakespeare of Bangladesh.

‎Rule 5

সমগ্র জাতি বোঝাতে singular common noun এর পূর্বে সাধারনত the বসে। তবে মানবজাতি বোঝাতে man/woman এর পূর্বে কোন article বসে না।

‎Example:

  • The tiger is a ferocious animal
  • The lion is known as the king of beasts.
  • Woman is man’s companion.
  • Man is mortal.

‎Rule 6

Most যখন তুলনা না বুঝিয়ে গুণ বা অবস্থার খুব বেশি পরিমাণ বোঝায় অর্থাৎ এটা যখন very অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন most এর আগে the না বসে, a বসে।

‎Example:

  • He is a most intelligent boy
  • It was a most interesting story.

‎যখন তুলনা করা হয়:

  • He is the most intelligent boy in the class.

‎

‎Rule 7

প্রকৃতিতে যা একটিমাত্র আছে যেমন পৃথিবী,চন্দ্র, পশ্চিম, পূর্ব, সূর্য, দক্ষিণ, উত্তর, আকাশ ইত্যাদি শব্দের পূর্বে The বসে। ট্রেন, জাহাজ, মরুভূমি, ধর্মগ্রন্থ, সংবাদপত্র, নদী, সাগর, পর্বতশ্রেণী, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, মহাসাগর ইত্যাদির নামের পূর্বেও The বসে।

‎Example:

  • The Earth moves around the Sun.
  • The Bay of Bengal lies to the south of Bangladesh.
  • The Moon shines at night.

‎Rule 8

খাবার সময়ের নামের পূর্বে “The” বসে না।

‎যেমন, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper এসবের আগে The বসে না। তবে নির্দিষ্ট খাবার বা নিমন্ত্রণ বুঝাতে the ব্যবহৃত হয়।

‎Example:

  • ‎I had breakfast at 8 a.m.
  • ‎We eat lunch at noon.

‎নির্দিষ্ট খাবার বোঝাতে।

  • ‎The breakfast served at the hotel was delicious.
  • ‎He enjoyed the dinner that was arranged for the guests.

‎Rule 9

সমষ্টি বাচক দেশের নামের পূর্বে The ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন, USA, UK, UAE

‎Example:

  • The United States of America (USA) is a developed country.
  • The United Kingdom (UK) consists of four countries.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is famous for its modern cities.

‎Rule 10

ভাষার নামের পূর্বে The বসে না।ভাষার সমগ্র জাতিকে বুঝাতে the ব্যবহৃত হয়

‎Example-

  • I can speak English.
  • He is learning French.
  • Sohag understands Arabic.

‎

  • ‎The English are known for their literature.
  • The French are famous for their cuisine.
  • The Chinese have a long history.
  • The Japanese are known for technological innovation.
